What does Medicare Cost?
The average cost of Medicare Supplement plans varies because health insurance companies have three ways that they price these plans:
- Community-rated: Premiums are not rated based on your age.
- Issue-age-rated: The monthly premium will be based on the age at which you purchased the policy.
- Attained-age-rated: Premiums will increase with age.
Medicare A and B plans
Medicare Supplement Plans A and B cover basic co-insurance and copayment costs for hospitalization, medical expenses, and hospice care. Medicare Supplement Plan B provides additional coverage for Part A deductibles
Plans D and C
Medicare Supplement Plans D and C help with out-of-pocket costs left from Original Medicare, like coinsurance, copayments, the Medicare Part A deductible, and emergency care abroad. Plan C also covers the Medicare Part B deductible.
Medicare Plan F
Medicare Supplement Plan F is only available to those who were eligible for Medicare prior to January 1, 2020. Plan F helps with out-of-pocket costs left from Original Medicare, like coinsurance and deductibles, plus coverage for Medicare Part A and B deductibles, and emergency care abroad.
Medicare Plans K and L
Medicare Supplement Plans K and L cover a range of medical costs, including doctors’ services and hospital care. The plans pay a percentage of your costs, and then you are responsible for the remainder. Each Medicare Supplement Plan K and L has its own out-of-pocket maximum,
Plan N
Another lower-premium option offering the same basic benefits; however, Plan N includes an office copayment of up to $20 and an emergency room copayment of up to $50. Medicare Supplement Plan N also covers Medicare Part A deductibles, skilled nursing care coinsurance, and emergency care abroad.
